Red Madrasah (Medrese-i Sor)

The Red Madrasah (Kurdish Medrese-i Sor), in Cizre's historic core, takes its name from its red brick and stone and dates to the 15th century in Seljuk style.

History

It is said to have been built by Cizre Bey Şeref II.

The Tomb of Melayê Cizîrî and Its Significance

To its south lies the tomb of the famous Kurdish poet and mystic Melayê Cizîrî (Sheikh Ahmed al-Jazari, 1404-1479), a link that makes the madrasah a central symbol of the region's tradition of learning and literature.

Visiting and Access

Within walking distance of the Cizre Grand Mosque, the Tomb of Prophet Noah and the Mem û Zîn Tomb, it is a link in the Cizre cultural walk.
