Day 1 Mardin — arrival & Mardin Old Town (Protected Area) & Zinciriye (Sultan Isa) Medrese Lunch

Arrival in Mardin and check-in. The day covers Mardin Old Town (Protected Area) and Zinciriye (Sultan Isa) Medrese. Mardin Old Town is a monumental protected urban site cascading in stepped terraces down the southern slope of the rocky ridge crowned by Mardin Castle, built almost entirely of… Transfer at the end of the tour.

  1. 08:30 - 13:30 Mardin Old Town (Protected Area)· 300 dk

Tour coaches set passengers down at the drop-off/pick-up points at Cumhuriyet Square / the lower level of 1st Street; coaches cannot enter the narrow upper streets, so the group continues on foot. Parking: For private cars, the lower car park on 1st Street and the car parks around Cumhuriyet Square; vehicle access into the old town streets is largely restricted.

The Mesopotamian plain and minaret skyline panorama from west-facing mansion and cafe terraces (golden-hour sunset); the plain view before the domes of the Zinciriye Madrasa; light-and-shadow compositions in the abbara stone tunnels; the stepped stone-mansion fabric of 1st Street and the silhouette of Mardin Castle.

Limited — the old town's steep slopes, stepped streets and cobblestone surfaces make it difficult for wheelchairs; the level sections of 1st Street and some terrace cafes are accessible, but the upper neighbourhoods and abbaras are largely unsuitable for disabled access.

  2. 14:00 - 15:45 Free time — bazaar, centre & shopping· 105 dk

Free time to explore the bazaar and support local trade (~1.5–2 hours).

    Street texture, tradespeople and handicrafts.

  3. 15:45 - 16:45 Lunch — local flavour stop· 60 dk

Lunch break of regional cuisine (outside half-board).

    Local spread and presentation shots.

  4. 16:45 - 17:25 Zinciriye (Sultan Isa) Medrese· 40 dk

Tour coaches cannot enter the narrow stone streets; they drop groups at points around 1st Street, from where visitors walk up the sloping streets. Parking: The building has no parking of its own; the 1st Street car park on the lower level of the old town and the general car parks around Republic Square are used, with the remaining distance covered on foot.

A symmetrical frame from the courtyard looking at the fluted domes; a detail of the muqarnas portal on the east façade; the west-facing Mesopotamian plain panorama from the upper terrace/roofline (golden hour at sunset); a wide-angle shot with minaret silhouettes in front of the domes.

Limited — steep, uneven stone streets, stairs and terraced courtyards make wheelchair access difficult; an assistant is recommended.
